FERMENTATIONS FEST is truly one of my favorite things despite getting undeniably and inexcusably lost every, single, time. There are many fine classes and events involving beer, fermentation, chocolate and crafts.
But as much as I wanted to check out the pig roast (yum) and Food Writing For Fun and Publication, my car had other ideas. It doesn’t help that I get lost. Every. Single. Time.
The Fest takes place in and around Reedsburg, which from Madison isn’t really far, but far enough. And a lot further because…see above.
The closer you are the more irresistible Bee Keeping For Beginners, Urban Forage and a tipsy family dinner called Beyond The Tequilla Region: An Agave Dinner become. How can you not want to be a part of all that? I’m looking at you 2009 RAV4.
Because it’s a bit of a trek in an aging car (with an aging driver), the Farm/ArtDtour is what it’s all about for me. Last year covered 50 miles (I covered three times that before the first installation) and displayed another year of Artworks, Farm Forms, Pasture Performances, Offshoots and Farmstands. This was the first year I caught a Pasture Performance and was lucky enough to catch Yid Vicious a few times.
How can I describe Yid Vicious, while I rifle through my files for a video I took in the mud and rain you can picture the most fun you’ve had at a wedding, make it a Jewish wedding and add nitrous.
Fermentation Fest comes from the non-profit Wormfarm Institute and they are now taking applications for their artist residency. If you’re an artist who loves sustainable culture in a rural setting who should read more here.
I’ll post more photos—there are so very many—and updates on this page.
